Lake Baikal is a unique place in Siberia,part of World Nature Heritage, the deepest lake on the planet (maximal depth : 1.637 meters); geographical age of it is 25-30 million years.

Traditionally it is believed that the tourist season at Lake Baikal is short, - everybody could hear jokes about green winter, which is still bearable compared to white one or about "a short summer with little snow".

June is the best month to travel to Lake Baikal if you want to enjoy its nature at attractive prices and without crowds of people at the camp sites and in museums. It is also one of the most favorable periods for fishing. The main difficulty in the beginning of summer it is low temperature of water in the lake, but we can say that the water in Lake Baikal never warms up to a comfortable level; you can swim only in bays.

But June on Lake Baikal is the best time for diving. In June, the water is clear, therefore, so diving will be a pleasure. Moreover, June is the best time for photo tours, you will have an opportunity to capture all the splendor of the blossoming Siberian taiga and its unmatched colors, and at the same time you can be sure you will not have to search for a view not burdened by the presence of idle tourists, this time there is no many people at Lake Baikal. The most popular tourist month is July, the warmest time at Lake Baikal. In the bays the water warms up to 24 degrees Celsius. This is the best time to swim and sunbathe. Along with July, August is a very popular period among tourists. The most demanded forms of recreation are boat trips on Lake Baikal and camping. In September, the number of tourists wishing to travel to Lake Baikal reduces. So you can count on discounts for camp sites; the costs of ship freight also become lower. But right now there comes a great time for fishing: you can fish almost everything! Till mid-September the weather is still warm, but the nights become cooler. If you travel by ship you can have a night fishing experience using the ship’s searchlight. Furthermore, September is the best time to plan photo tours; you will have an opportunity to capture all the splendor of the Siberian taiga in unsurpassed colors of the Baikal autumn. At the same time you can be sure you will not have to search for a view not burdened by the presence of idle tourists, this time there is no many people at Lake Baikal already. Travelling to Baikal means exploration of the nature, hiking, adventure. You should be ready to get more impressions than comfort. Tourism and infrastructure are just developing in the Baikal region. You will not find here all inclusive resorts with pools and beach bars and high-class comfortable buses. The distances at Baikal are quite long and there is obvious lack of good roads. If you are ready to face some challenges, but to see wonders of the nature, this destination is for you and you’ll love this place for sure.

How to get to Baikal

The quickest way is a plane trip from Moscow to Irkutsk, which takes 5 hours and 40 minutes.

Train trip from Moscow to Irkutsk takes 74 hours (3 days and 2 hours).

Then you will have to travel 65 km by car or by bus to Listvianka village.
